So it has been a while since I last updated this blog.  But at least I have some good news!  The first draft of AO3 is complete and I’ve begun the editing process. Believe it or not, the first draft clocked in at 193K words and I expect that this will increase further as I edit.  As a result, AO3 will be quite a bit longer than the previous two books.

In terms of a timeline, editing will probably take a couple months (for my second developmental pass, an editor pass, and then proofing), and then we will need about two weeks to prepare the audio.  However, the manuscript looks pretty clean so far, so hopefully I’ll be able to move quickly.  The bottom line is that May or June is looking like a possibility for a release!

I’ll make a separate post once I’m ready to start putting up some early chapters on my Patreon.

Anyway, I hope you all are having a great week!

LOL I just hope you finger less weapons on this book. I do love the story and can’t wait to read the this one.

I hear the weapons like it. It’s like combat foreplay…

Ha! I love that response, though I hope he meant “featuring less weapons.” Though, I don’t know why he’d want less weapons featured … or less fingering of weapons.

Sounds like lots of work still to come. I’m here to proof read if necessary 😂. I can’t wait for this one. I’m completely hooked on the story.

Hooray! I pointed this series out to my 13 year-old boys and they have not stopped hounding me about when the next book is coming out.

    Super excited too!

For a while I avoided the side quest because I was sure it wasn’t going to be as good as the main series. I was so wrong! Now I’ve read all the available books at least twice and I can’t possibly wait for the third one.

I am glad to hear the third one is longer. More content is almost always a good thing! It’ll be awesome to see how it picks up from the second one. And what the heck was he even doing during the side quest. It’ll be interesting to find out.

Ha. I think I can answer those questions…

I’m also working on another side novel in between editing (which gets a little tiresome). I’m calling it AO: Apathy and it follows a character introduced in book three (I still need to come up with a good story idea for Frank’s side quest). I’m a little sucked in already, but it’s a bit different than Riley and Jason…

I’ve got a few early, unedited chapters up here.

Just finished the first 2 books on audible (I “read” while I’m at work to make the day pass faster and more enjoyably) and I’m getting ready to start the side quest . Was pretty worried the first book was going to devolve into male gamer misogynist drivel, but you swerved it away from that in a great and really enjoyable way! Hoping that Riley gets fleshed out in the side quest!
Also that cliff hanger for the ending of book two is wild! Can’t wait for book 3 to hit audible hopefully not too long after the print version comes out!

Glad you enjoyed the books! I also wasn’t too fond of the misogyny in some other books in the genre…

Finished the side quest book and I was initially a bit put out by how much Riley was thinking about what Jason would do, or how she can’t handle this or that, because she’s not as smart as Jason, etc. However I’m very happy that it wasn’t poor characterization, it’s someone dealing with emotional abuse and working through that towards character growth. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait for book 3!
Also whoops forgot which email I used on my first comment so hopefully I used the same one here!

Ok. So as a sci fi nerd, regular dungeon master, and mmorpg enthusiast, I’m pretty sure I’m the exact target audience for this book. Don’t change anything. I love the way it is written and presented, even the occasional stat window and weapon description. The story is gripping, engaging, and it makes me want to play this damn game. I think I’ve recommended your book to some hundred or so people, and every time, I tell them I literally could not put it down. Seriously, I was up to 4 in the morning finishing book 1, got book 2 the next morning and stayed up til 4 reading that one, too. I just need more of this story. Please.

This is amazing news. When I bought your books, I bought all 3 that were out at the time, and have completely distroyed, consumed, and relished them in less the a week. Plan on re-reading them to boot before your next one hits the market. Wishing you fast fingers, and time compression.

Glad to hear the new AO is getting closer to release! These books are some of my absolute favorites. I took to the first 3 quests like a fish to a shiny lure…couldn’t stop or help myself from taking the bait. haha.

Hi! I have been reading your books from Catharsis on through Sidequest! I remember when I first found it! (I blitzed through it in around 5 hours of straight reading by completely blowing off my schoolwork, and then proceeded to stay up another 7 re-reading) I am looking forward towards your next book, I can honestly say that if I had the chance, I would dive right into your world headfirst with no regrets. Each book fleshes it out beautifully without resorting to taking the focus off of the characters. And on that topic, the characters are compelling and even the ones that are obviously not, feel … human. The only thing I would ask to know more about would be about what kinds of nature magics are present in your world. But I digress, thank you for giving me a break from reality when I needed it after a death in the family. You will have my eternal gratitude for helping me through that. Thank you, and I am ecstatically waiting for the next installment!

Mr Bagwell, I was very happy to discover your novel on Amazon. Congratulations on your second career! The first book of the series quickly captured my interest and kept it. You are good at reaching a climax in your stories and I could literally feel my heart speedup with excitement. I thought the writing was a bit stilted in the first one but you have improved very quickly. I find myself thinking about the books and eagerly waiting for what happens next. Eager enough to track you down here to see if I could find out when the next one comes out! I’ll definitely be checking out your future stories and spreading the word to those of like interests.
