When will the audiobook be out? Thank you for all of the hard work, I have enjoyed all of your books. Thanks!
Looking like mid-June for a release. Preorder was supposed to be up last week, but Amazon/Audible is moving a bit slow. Likely another side effect of this pandemic unfortunately.
Unrelated to this exact post, however I LOVE YOUR SERIES! I play mmorpgs and am a huge anime fan. I was google searching some ideas to find some new books to read and stumbled across a reddit post that stated the genre i was looking for was called litRPG, the user’s first recommendation was AO: catharsis. To say i immediately devoured the book is an understatement. Ive read Catharsis, precipice, and evolution in 4 days. Getting both the kindle format and audible format so I dont miss a single moment even when occupied by something else. Thank you so much for your hard work making these stories. Truly a genre and story i didnt know i was looking for. The yin-yang of the protagonist and antagonist, the growth and development of the characters. The fact that minor sub characters matter. Amazing. Moving on to the side quest book of Eliza, Apathy, next!
Ahh, thanks! I’m glad the stories have resonated with you and hopefully, the rest of the books live up to the first few!
They do. I typically don’t like side stories but these were just as entertaining making Unity one of my favorites of the series and fleshing out Frank a lot more making him more than just the tag along he has been till now.
Awesome!! cant wait to dive in!
I loved the book! It was really interesting and fun. Are you still expecting to release inferno in a few months?
Glad to hear it! Inferno is already underway. Just moving a little slower than expected since I’ve had to deal with a lot of legal work lately (stimulus bill and shelter in place). We’re still roughly on track, though!
Yay can’t wait to see what happens! Awaken Online is probably my favorite series
Hey,just binged the original Awaken Online series and enjoyed it thoroughly could you please tell the timeline or when you would be releasing the #5 book in the series?cant really wait for to gorge myself on another AO book.
Hopefully, before the end of the year. I have one more book in Finn’s arc (Ember/Flame/Inferno), and then I’m switching back to Jason. Although, I strongly suggest you read Ember/Flame/Inferno. They’re going to be relevant moving forward.
And they are really good btw!
When does Flame become available in paperback? Can only see the Kindle edition on link (and that won’t fit well into my dedicated bookshelf)
It just went live actually!

Just wanted to say, I just binged all 9 books and loved every single moment. I was skeptical at first about deviating form Jason’s journey but Finn grabbed me right away. These books have been awesome, thank you so much!
Ha, glad to hear it! I get that sort of response a lot. “I was skeptical, but…” Finn is just a blast to write for some reason, but I’m also looking forward to getting back to Jason. I have such a cool idea for Jason’s book 5. After I finished Inferno, of course…
Love this series but something has always really bugged me about the initial concept. Just because someone has a strong enough association with a certain emotion that they can use magic doesn’t mean absolutely every one of those would want to be a magic user in a game. So why is it that every single person who tested strong enough is willing to go through this crazy mage training guild? They claim that its just to ensure that they know enough to be safe for the rest of the city, but why aren’t there some players who are just like “na, I don’t want to be a mage” and quit immediately or others who do the absolute basic level of instruction and then want to leave? Instead this whole guild is set up to forcefully turn everyone into as powerful of a mage as they can be and threatens everyone with losing their magic to push them along. I just feel like there has to be a sizable segment of the player base who either wouldn’t want to be a mage in the first place or who wouldn’t want to spend weeks worth of time going through “the tutorial”. Just kind of bugged me that absolutely everyone is shown trying to be the best mage they can in this guild that they weren’t given a choice about joining.
I believe that was mentioned in Ember. A player rebelled in the entering courtyard and I believe Finn remarks that the player population has dipped — from people leaving the game/Mage Guild.
Although, to be fair, I’d probably stick around the guild long enough to not get wrecked. Rushing past the tutorial would likely feel horrible in AO given how realistic the combat is. I suspect many players would take a slightly more conservative approach than within current-day RPGs/MMOs. Just my opinion, of course.
The player rebelling seemed more like he was a jerk against any sort of being told what to do to me. And I know the decreasing numbers are mentioned, but really seemed implied that they were being purged for poor performance. There’s no mention of being able to just leave which seems reinforced with how absurd the front doors are. May just be me, but it just felt like nobody was being able to leave of their own free will.
Also, since when has getting wrecked ever stopped people from skipping a tutorial? Can’t even count the number of times I’ve told my friends that the tutorial for a new game is super helpful because its really complicated. Then 20 minutes later i’m being bombarded with questions because they skipped the tutorial and now have no idea what they’re doing.
They also have the option of starting elsewhere and many of them have probably done research before starting the game (reading up on regions’ practices and whatnot to decide where they want to go). Additionally, if the game did just put them somewhere at random, then I’m sure Albert could pick up on whether or not they wanted to be a mage.
I dunno man, the mages in the game tend to be incredibly powerful. And the players would clearly look that up on the net before making the decision to delete a character. Also, the mages are sometimes physical based fighters that can use a bit of magic. There is nothing stopping someone with magic from being a front line sword and shield fighter that uses their magic in non confrontational ways. Think of it more like Skyrim, where you can have magic and sword skills, as opposed to WoW, where you have to choose what to do.
These books are awesome are you doing the air avatar as well lightning or teleportation would be my guess and are the avatars going to eventually go head to head?
So I will probably write a book for the air avatar eventually — I already have a cool idea in mind.
And without spoilers, I’d say that it’s a safe assumption that some of the avatars are going to go head to head in future books!
I have to say, I just finished Unity, and man that was a great story.
This whole series has been great, and I’ll be waiting on the edge of my seat for every book. Going to start Finn’s story next.
(P.S. Frank’s story was so good, I hope some more ‘Side Quests’ following his adventures and run ins with those involved in Unity will be made!)
Glad you liked Unity!
I have to admit, it was pretty fun to write. I think I might do some more installments with Frank solo in the future. I badly wanted to just have him roaming the game world and killing huge monsters… almost like a series of short stories or something with him leveling and crafting stuff.
Looking forward to those…..!
